about

MEGAN CONNER

“A firecracker,” “raw emotion, and “southern class with northern sass…”  all of these have been used to describe Megan Conner.  People who have seen her perform don’t forget it.  The story of how she found herself in the music industry is an interesting one for sure…

“My parents divorced when I was 3, and I was traveling back and forth from Texas to North Carolina on airplanes by myself at 4 years old, so I grew up very fast.  By the age of 7 I knew what I believed in and what I wanted in my life.  I knew that I wanted to affect people’s lives in a positive way,” says Megan.  She began performing at the early age of 5 – whether it was acting classes or merely putting on a show for her parents and the neighbors, you could always find Megan putting a smile on people’s faces.

Megan was born in North Carolina, grew up in Texas, and then headed to NYC after graduating from Baylor University with a degree in Theater Performance.  She moved to New York for theater, but quickly found a job in the fitness business and fell in love with that industry.  “I truly believe that the fitness business is the only business that is completely positive – there’s just nothing negative about it.  It’s all about bettering yourself,” says Megan.  “To see people changing themselves from the inside out and being a part of that is such a blessing.”  Megan began training and teaching all over NYC, eventually managed a gym in midtown, created a triathlon club, and competed in triathlon, marathon and duathlon races.  She is a nationally recognized fitness instructor and has been featured in Elle magazine and Private Clubs magazine.  The spin class that she developed was dubbed “spinertainment” where she used her performance skills to entertain as well as give people a great workout.  Music execs took her classes noticed her as a natural entertainer and motivator, and encouraged her to move down to Nashville to pursue her dream.  Megan hit Nashville running a few years ago, and hasn’t stopped since!

Still a fresh face in Nashville, Megan is now working with prominent singer/songwriters and producers to help shape her career.  Some of the people she has recently or currently work with are Ted Hewitt (producer of Rodney Atkins), Nathan Chapman (producer of Taylor Swift), David Malloy, Josh Kelley, Steve Dean, Jen Adan (writer of “She Wouldn’t Be Gone” – Blake Shelton), writers at Big Loud Shirt, RPM Music, Blacktop, and producer Christopher Stevens (Toby Mac) among others.  “I have been so lucky to be surrounded with such an amazing network of writers, musicians, performers and producers.  I am continually blown away by the level of talent here in Nashville, and am so thankful to be working with such wonderful people.”  From 2008-2009 Megan had the opportunity to write for Dan Hodges Music where she grew her catalog and met many new co-writers.

In 2008, Megan competed in the national competition – “The Next GAC Star.”  She was chosen as one of 6 finalists, and had the opportunity to perform live on national TV and work with producers Victoria Shaw and Desmond Child.  “This experience was an amazing one!  It took my performance level up a notch or two.  Ever since the show, I have seen a huge growth in my stage show and even my writing.  I am so thankful for being a part of it!”

No matter what Megan’s involvements have been, it always comes back to the music and affecting people.  “I want to create music that moves people.  I want to make people laugh, cry, FEEL…  Music is life put to melody, so I hope that through my music, people can see who I am, what I’ve been through, and hopefully through that – they will find a piece of themselves in one of my songs.”  Megan has a solid personal philosophy on which she is building her life and her career.  “I hope to continue to grow while touching the lives of others through my music.  No matter if there are 5,000 people or 5 people in the room that I’m performing in – if I connect with just one person, then
I consider my job done.”
